Carolyn Sheheane,

Office Manager,

Charleston.

“Our main objective here is patient care.”

From a young age, Carolyn Sheheane envisioned herself in the medical field. Following high school, she had to put that medical career dream on hold, as she got married and began a family. Little did she know that one day she would have both.

Fast forward to 2001 when Carolyn's friend introduced her to a Charleston, SC dental practice that had an opening for a dental assistant position and offered hands-on training. Carolyn worked her way up from Dental Assistant to Front Desk Assistant, to her current role as Office Manager. In 2008, that then private practice, was purchased by Affordable Dentures & Implants (ADI), changing the course for Carolyn, her colleagues and the practice as a whole.

The practice is quite busy, with three front desk staff, five lab staff and five dental assistants, along with practice owner, Dr. Cauley and several other dentists. They are able to treat multiple patients, including 2-3 implant cases on a daily basis. The unique structure of ADI is responsible for Carolyn and the entire practice team’s ability to focus on one thing and one thing only. The patients..

“Our main objective here is patient care,” she continues, “With the Affordable Care Support Center handling the business aspects, it takes some of the strain off, and allows us to give more time to patients. We are able to treat at least three more patients a day because of this.”

More time for patients and more time for one another. That family environment within the practice is oh so evident and cherished by Carolyn and her colleagues.

“We have a very open office. We laugh and joke and get along so well…We know each other’s spouses, each other’s children. It’s really one big family here.”

As a self-proclaimed people person, both her role and the practice culture is ideal for Carolyn. “I like meeting people...here I am able to talk to patients, hear their stories and help change their lives,” she says. And she gets to do it. Every. Single. Day.

Carolyn’s dream of a career in the medical field may have been put on the shelf for a bit, but she got there. And she’s found it to be the perfect fit.
