AD&I Snapshots: Heidi Searle, American Fork, UT Lab Technician
“I wanted to get into a field where I worked with people in person...where I made something with my hands that would benefit someone else and make them happy,” Searle says.
Each holiday season brings feelings of gratitude and giving to the forefront. People yearn to make a difference. To give back.
Every weekday, Heidi Searle gets to do that. It’s not something confined solely by the months of November and December. It’s an ongoing thing.
Searle is a Lab Technician at Affordable Dentures & Implants in American Fork, UT where she is part of the team that crafts dentures and implants every day.
Prior to joining the ADI family, Searle worked in office administration, her roles consisting mainly of customer service and accounts payable duties. Though she enjoyed working with people, she wanted to work with them in a different way.
“I wanted to get into a field where I worked with people in person...where I made something with my hands that would benefit someone else and make them happy,” Searle says.
That’s where ADI came into the picture, fulfilling her career dream of doing something artistic and meaningful for the benefit of others.
A friend, who works as a lab manager at the practice, told Searle of the opening for a lab processor. Going in, she knew two things. One, she wouldn’t be sacrificing her family time. For Searle, a mother of three, this was vital.
“The flexibility and set hours allow me to be with my family. That's the thing for me...being able to be with my family,” Searle says.
And the second thing that Searle knew was that she’d be creating dentures and implants. As simple as that. She had yet to discover the tremendous impact that the practice made, felt by both the patients and the creators alike.
“I was just blown away...amazed,” she continues, “I chose to be here because it changes people...their outlook, who they are...their self esteem,” she says.
She began as a Lab Processor in 2015. A year and a half later she progressed to a Waxer position and then her current role as a Full Lab Technician six months after that. Her quick career advancement is commonplace within ADI, as 70% of employees have experienced a promotion.
Through ADI’s continuing education training, in conjunction with working side by side with her practice team, Searle uncovered her artistic side.
“What I do...It’s just like an artist, who has some idea in their mind of what they are going to do before they draw it out. This is the same way....you do have to have that imagination, that ability to visualize. I didn’t have it before, but now I do,“ Searle says.
That honed artistry and precision has given her new skills, ones that have allowed her to transform the lives of so many.
Having family members with dentures, she has witnessed the need and understands the transformative effect that dentures and implants have on one’s well-being, both externally and internally, enhancing their way of life. Fulfilling this takes someone who can artistically and meticulously craft each prosthetic to fit each unique patient perfectly. It also takes someone who simply cares.
“I wanted to be a part of that,” she says, “I wanted to be that person.”
